Many online survey platforms provide nice quick analysis summaries for you, but that doesn’t always cover everything you want to see, or not in the way you want to show it. Unfortunately, exporting survey data, especially data from surveys where you’ve asked multiple answer questions, doesn’t come in the easiest format to visualize. You’ll likely have to reorganize the data if you want to be able to use pivot tables and easily create visualizations.
One tip I recently learned: the “Unpivot” function in excel. It allows you to transform multiple columns into one column. This is marvelous, because with all the different answers in one column, now you can more easily create charts.
While I followed this online tutorial, I had to do one extra step, so I thought I’d share it here. I had to click the little arrow beside the unpivot column button, and choose “unpivot only selected columns.”
I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other great tips!
