Many of us have heard that outdoor play benefits the development of children and youth. Exactly what are those benefits?
According to the Health of Canada’s Children and Youth, systematic reviews have found many benefits to active outdoor play.
Apart from the obvious physical benefits, here are some other proven benefits:
Mental Health - Children who engage in active outdoor play develop resiliency and skills to deal with stress
Social skills - during play children learn to get along with their peers, develop relationships, and reduces feelings of isolation.
Connection and Creativity - children who spent more time playing outdoors have more social interactions and demonstrated increased creativity.
