Growth of SEL in Canada with Dr. Kim Schonert-Reichl

Did you know that British Columbia is the first place in North America (or maybe the world) to explicitly embed SEL within a school system?

Dr. Kim highlights the advancement of SEL in Canada including government, philanthropic and academic sectors. The clip also spotlights CASEL, a chicago based organization advancing SEL.

What opportunities might we have or initiatives currently taking place that will help advance SEL in Ontario?

What can we do to help SEL become a part of Ontario classrooms?

That’s a great question. In the U.S. CASEL advocates for and supports SEL in classrooms. While we do not have a body like CASEL in Canada, People for Education has been making the case for SEL and measuring SEL. According to Dr. Kim Schonert-Reichl, UBC is the first to integrate SEL in their teaching programs.

Perhaps others are aware of if and how SEL is integrated in Ontario schools?
