Fundamental Fridays: How I like to define evaluation

Welcome to our first Fundamental Fridays post! This is all about focusing in on fundamentals for those new to evaluation. We’ll try to start at the beginning and work our way through the basics.

So let’s start at the very beginning. What the heck is evaluation?

Evaluation is the systematic gathering and interpretation of information about a program to help decision-making

I like to say that really, in a nutshell, evaluation is all about asking questions, and using what you have learned to move forward. The word ‘systematic’ is in bold above, because how we ask those questions, collect information and interpret it matter. Tune into further posts on Fridays for more on this.

If you have a great article, resource or tip that you think people new to evaluation might like, please share!
