Fostering a sense of home for newcomers through nature experiences

I just came across an article showcasing a great initiative being run in Idaho. The New Roots program is a two-week summer camp for refugees and new immigrants. It was started after the founder noticed that although the city had several outdoors program, few young immigrants were participating. This was particularly concerning given the city’s high per-capita refugee settlement rate. The program connects youth to the natural world around them, exposes them to new career pathways, and helps establish a sense of belonging in their new home.

Are people familiar with similar initiatives running here in Toronto, in Ontario, in Canada? Are there examples you can share? I’d be interested in learning more!
